A pleasant surprise last week when I looked at Marinetraffic: the Auto Eco was moored at quay 102. Something you don't see very often!
The ship was moored at the Hoppe / Euroservices terminal for the conditioning of the LNG tank.
A number of design elements and technologies have been used to help reduce fuel consumption and emissions to ensure safer and more efficient operations.
The vessel has a capacity of approximately 4,000 vehicles, including 6,000 m² for high & heavy freight. The cargo can be divided over 10 decks with a maximum weight of 160MT.
So it immediately became clear that it is always easy when you always have the camera at hand. After my early shift, I decided to take some pictures of the ship docked next to the Harbor Mole. The Auto Eco is not just any ship.
With its 181 meters in length and 30 meters in width, the Auto Eco is the largest dual-fuel and also the largest 1A super ice class PCTC in the world. PCTC stands for Pure Car Truck Carrier. The ship can run on LNG fuel or heavy fuel oil and marine gas oil. The Auto Eco can complete a fourteen-day journey using only LNG fuel, including the main engine and auxiliary power generator.
Did you know that the capacity of a car carrier is often expressed in RT, RT-43 or CEU? RT and RT-43 are based on the 1966 Toyota Corona? This was the first car to be mass-produced and subsequently shipped with car carriers.
1RT is approximately 4 meters of lane space required to deploy a Toyota Corona. CEU then stands for Car Equivalent Unit.
